Bars in Melbourne

So I guess it is no secret that I like a cheeky drink, or 10 and this topic is definitely one I know a lot about, finding a good bar!

Melbourne is known for great bars, amazing rooftops and awesome atmospheres and I definitely want to share with you some great bars I have been to recently!

The Emerson – South Yarra

Located not far off the Chapel Street, The Emerson is a club/rooftop bar with great music and an awesome atmosphere. It is $20 to get in later on Friday/Saturdays, and they only take cash on entry so be prepared to have some money on you.

The rooftop is the first place to go to before the DJ starts downstairs and it is an indoor/outdoor rooftop with two bars and a big open area. It is at this rooftop I’ve had some very interesting conversations, seen Jimmy Bartel and met the owners of 50 KFCs in Melbourne.

The few times I’ve been to the Emerson I’ve gotten home extremely late, made loads of friends, had the best times and the worst hangovers. The Emerson is a great spot playing great music.

Fargo and Co – Richmond

A new bar to the Swan street strip, Fargo and Co is an old bank turned cocktail bar and it is definitely one of my favourites! With awesome cocktails, espresso martinis on tap and an awesome rooftop beer garden, this place is great for Friday night and Saturday night drinks.

But wait, there’s more! They also do bottomless brunch on a Sunday and I’ve been dying to go. Fargo and Co host many events too, one I went to was the AFL grand final party they had. For about $40 each it included a table in front of the big screen to watch the game, some lunch and a free drink.

Plus once the game was over they had a DJ downstairs. It was a big night, they definitely know how to host an event.

Fargo and Co have amazing drinks – I recommend the dollar bill shot – have good food, great service and most importantly an awesome vibe. Check it out!

Storyville – CBD

A bar in Melbourne that will send you to another land, a fairy tale land. Storyville is a cocktail bar with interior just like you have stepped into one of your favourite fairytales.

It is so cute with all the mushrooms coming from the walls and the two story bar gives you two different gorgeous interiors to enjoy. The top floor is my favourite with a wall that looks like a giant book shelf with all the classics.

The cocktail list is dedicated to different stories, a few are pretty strong. The Harry Potter I had cocktail was:

Gin, Ginger Liqueur, Kiwi, Basil and Lime

(Harry Potter, J. K Rowling, 1997 – 2007)
Why not try your hand at concocting your very own potion with our DIY Polyjuice? Your own little pot and away you go. Who will you become this evening?

So yum, they have loads more to try!

An extremely cute bar located in a laneway off Lonsdale Street.

Baroq House – CBD

Another cocktail bar in the city, Baroq House is an RnB bar playing good music with loads of different drinks on offer. It is a small venue with a similar vibe to Bond Bar. Baroq House is located in a laneway next to Melbourne Central and it a good place for Friday night drinks.

Madame Brussels – CBD

A classic rooftop in Melbourne with a gorgeous garden party theme. Madame Brussels may be a little hard to find but once you do, you will never forget!

The little eats are amazing – strongly recommend the chicken sandwiches – and their cocktail jugs are refreshing and delicious. The staff are super friendly, their menu is hilarious and slightly inappropriately phrased, which I love, and the decor is so bright, vintage and colourful.

The views from the rooftop of the city are beautiful and Madame Brussels also host cute garden parties for hens or any occasion!

Laundry Bar – Fitzroy

A great RnB, Hip Hop/Rap bar, Laundry Bar is located in Fitzroy just around the corner from Naked for Satan. I ventured there on a Thursday night and they had awesome drink specials ($5 shots and $5 basic spirits) and they had the best music!

For a Thursday night it was pretty busy but I can imagine a Friday and Saturday night would be packed. Definitely recommend going here if you are looking for a place that will play Kendrick when you request it, great place.

Holey Moley – CBD

Not only is this venue a two story bar serving golf related cocktails, but you can actually play indoor mini golf.

Holey Moley brings my two favourites together, drinks and mini golf. The course runs over two stories with all up 27 holes to play if you choose, they even have a Simpsons themed hole.

Although a little cramped, it is still great for a bit of competition and a even good date night place.

A super fun place with a cocktail even dedicated to Happy Gilmore and amazing golf related puns everywhere. Just watch out of the glory hole.
